The polymer material serves to both transmit lithium ions and isolate the anode from the cathode. As there’s no need to inject additional electrolytes or only a small amount of electrolytes need to be injected, there will not be any leakage when accidents occur. Also, polymers are flame-retardant and can reduce the likelihood of catching fire, which makes the batteries safer.

But as it is a li-ion battery, there’s still a safety risk in the case of excess charging.
