AMD a désormais migré l’ensemble de sa production de microprocesseurs vers des procédés de fabrication SOI. Innovative Silicon (Santa Clara, Californie) avance qu’une Z-RAM peut afficher une densité cinq fois supérieure à celle d’une mémoire SRAM embarquée et deux fois supérieure à celle d’une mémoire DRAM embarquée.

Cela permettrait, en outre, à AMD de se différencier et à distancer son rival Intel Corp. qui, jusqu’à ce jour, maintient qu’il n’est pas nécessaire d’adopter la technologie SOI. De même, le fait qu’AMD prenne en licence la technologie Z-RAM pourrait avoir un impact sur IBM et Chartered Semiconductor.

« La forte hausse de densité offerte par la mémoire embarquée Z-RAM d’Innovative Silicon offre une mémoire cache sur puce bien plus grande.
